Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in The West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island to the west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. It is often cited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer, but due to a rapid increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Dancers who have been in the past often switch to acting, and in the case of Brugel, it was an urging by her teacher of drama. Teacher who recommended she try getting a part in the school's annual production. After trying out, she ended up as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, she's appeared involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
